Varroa Management for Beekeepers in the Illawara & Shoalhaven

Most Beekeepers in this area are now dealing with the mite at various stages. Some have been hit hard, seeing their colonies absconding or being smashed by SHB early on. Others have had the opportunity to experiment with natural approaches before the numbers hit the DPI’s threshold for treatment. There are a number of treatments available now and beekeepers are trying different methods depending on their area, time constraints, budgets and preferences. THE PURPOSE OF THIS SESSION – is to give beekeepers an opportunity to share what they are trying and what is working for them, and to know that they are not alone. We are all still learning and for the most part, there are no “right and wrongs”. This is a judgement / criticism-free session where the only rule is tolerance & respect for everyone. And understanding that we are all just doing the best we can with what we have during this challenging time. Rachael Peedom from Bee Inspired in Kiama, NSW will moderate the session but otherwise its an open mic night for questions and answers from anyone who wants to contribute to the ongoing Varroa discusion.
